Though British fashion designer Alexander McQueen is no longer with us, his legacy continues to live on. It was quite apparent in Kate Middleton's elegant ivory and white satin wedding dress designed by his former assistant Sara Burton and now in this gummy bear dress that was crafted as a unique tribute to the designer for the inaugural cover of Twelv, a magazine dedicated to fashion, music, art and culture, that made its debut in May 2012.
The brainchild of the magazine's editor - fashion designer Hissa Igarashi and his assistant Sayuri Marakumi, the stunning gown was inspired by Alexander McQueen's 'Parrot Dress', a vibrantly colorful gown that met with the approval of even the most ruthless fashion critics when it was unveiled by the designer, as part of his Spring/Summer collection in 2008.
As you can imagine creating this gummy bear replica was no easy task. The two designers began by building a dress frame using steel wire, which they then covered with a sheet of vinyl. After that began the painstaking work of hand-gluing each and every one of the 50,000 pieces of candy in a perfect rainbow colored order, a task that took them about three weeks.
As you can see, the end result was a stunning piece of art that weighed a whopping 220 pounds and took three men to lift. While not quite ideal for a party, it did look good enough to devour!
