Number the Stars is a great book by Lois Lowry, a fantastic author. I'm a huge fan of Holocaust stories, fiction and nonfiction, so I immediately took to this book. However, I would recommend it for anyone who loves a touching story. This book's protagonist is Annemarie Johansen, a Christan girl living in Denmark. The story is told in the first person by Annemarie, and she and her family assist her Jewish best friend, Ellen, and Ellen's family escape Nazi oppression. One of the things I like most about this book is the way it tells the story of just a few days, rather than the journey of Ellen and Annemarie throughout the whole Holocaust. The reader can get a glimpse into the lives of both Jews and non-Jews living in a Nazi-dominated world, without giving a definite result of Annemarie and Ellen's efforts. Even the ending leaves the reader open to deciding what comes next. I also like that Annemarie, the main character, is not a Jew. It shows the struggle that the entire community went through during Holocaust, and while the Jews no doubt suffered the most by far, it lets you see a story set in a familiar period through new eyes. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes stories that are touching, exciting, but with little active action. If your favorite historical fictions take place on the front lines of war or on a long, action-packed journey, this is probably not the book for you. However, if you appreciate a touching story with a little excitement, I'd definitely recommend Lois Lowry's Number the Stars.

This book was very entertaining. You really knew what it was like to be in Annemarie and Ellen's shoes. I loved the happy ending as well. It was so suspenseful, I read it in about 3 days!

This book was fantastic! The description, the writing made me feel like I was standing right there. In Annemarie's eyes in the 1940s. Ellen was determined and you even felt for her! Seriously you need to read this book if you haven't!
This book is really touching. Even though its not true, you feel as if you are part of the story. In the story a girl named Annnemarie is living at the time of Hitler's reign ( Holocaust). Even though she's Christian, her best friend Ellen Rosen is Jewish. She has to face her fears and help Ellen , her family and possibly all the Jews in Denmark.
