This first book in Veronica Roth's #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy is the novel the inspired the major motion picture starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet. This dystopian series set in a futuristic Chicago has captured the hearts of millions of teen and adult readers.
Perfect for fans of the Hunger Games and Maze Runner series, Divergent and its sequels, Insurgent and Allegiant, are the gripping story of a dystopian world transformed by courage, self-sacrifice, and love. Fans of the Divergent movie will find the book packed with just as much emotional depth and exhilarating action as the film, all told in beautiful, rich language.
One choice can transform you. Beatrice Prior's society is divided into five factions—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Beatrice must choose between staying with her Abnegation family and transferring factions. Her choice will shock her community and herself. But the newly christened Tris also has a secret, one she's determined to keep hidden, because in this world, what makes you different makes you dangerous.
And don't miss Veronica Roth’s thrilling novel Carve the Mark.

Divergent is a book about a dystopian society where everyone is sorted into 5 "factions" based on their personalities. (Abnegation; the selfless, Amity; the peaceful, Candor; the truthful, Dauntless; the brave, and Erudite; the intelligent) Abnegation-born Beatrice Prior feels like she doesn't belong in her faction. When she takes the aptitude test (to see which faction one belongs to the most), she gets an inconclusive result. She discovers she can belong to three factions (Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite) instead of one, making her Divergent. Being Divergent is dangerous in this society because they cannot be controlled. In the Choosing Ceremony, where 16-year-olds must choose their faction, Beatrice surprises everyone by dripping her blood into the Dauntless bowl. Beatrice gets a new name (Tris) and meets her new instructor, Four (a nickname, just like Tris!). When Tris and Four uncover Erudite's plan to massacre Abnegation, they try to save it as hard as possible. Like every YA book, Divergent has violence, but at a lower level than the Hunger Games. It also has some romance (kissing). However, Divergent is an addictive and interesting novel, and thanks to this book, I lost at least 3 hours of sleep reading this. I suggest this for mature 10-year-olds and sensitive teenage readers.
This book is a little bit bloody, but it is well written and the plot is intriguing. I recommend this book, but the story can be a little bit confusing
This book is amazing!! Definitely recommended for people who like action and thriller... I LOVE tris and four 💗
Really good dystopian fiction. I love that the book mainly follows Tris' journey becoming a Dauntless, but also follows Tris and Four's romance and you get to really watch it blossom. I'm a sucker for romance things, but there has to be some other element with it, otherwise, it's way too much. I like this one because of A, the romance with Tris and Four, B, the fights that Tris has with Peter and how he's a jerk, for lack of a better word, and C, the violence. It sounds awful, but its so satisfying how authors describe violence . I'm just built that way, I guess 😂
Some of my friends have recommended Divergent to me, and it looks like a pretty good book!
Tris knows what faction she wants to be in. She has her whole life. But when she comes up to choose for real, her thoughts are mixed, and she surprises herself by choosing the faction her family looked down upon. Tris must leave everything behind, and brace for the competition of the Dauntless. Everything is at stake if she doesn't. Riveting and beautiful, this is a true masterpiece. Take that Suzanne Collins!
the book smells like donuts which is goood
