This book was pretty good. I thought Michelle Paver did a great job. It was a little confusing in the beginning because there were so many different characters to keep track of - But then it all started coming together and the cliff-hangers at the end of each chapter made me want to read further. The details were really good and I could just imagine what was happening. The whole story was through the voice of a young goatherd named Hylas, a young priestess named Pirra, and a beloved dolphin named Spirit. One of the best things about the book was that throughout the story Hylas (the goatherd) and Spirit (the dolphin) begin to develop this heart-warming bond. Also it was fun the read about what dolphins think we look like. The whole story is about Hylas and His sister Issi. They were found on the mountainside a marked a Outsiders who are basically slaves. One day these armed warriors come and invade their camp. In the process they shoot the dog and Hylas and Issi are separated. Suddenly, Hylas is on the run from everything he's ever known. He finds Pirra the preistess and together they try to survive. Do these youngsters make it? Are they able to fight off the stronger armed warriors aka crows? will Hylas and Issi reunite? What happens to spirit? Read this amazing book to find out. I can't wait for the sequel to come out!

Gods and Warriors by Michelle Paver, is a really good book about a 12 year-old boy named Hylas. Hylas and his sister Issi are Outsiders meaning that they were born outside of their village. They had never thought much of it until a group of men dressed in all black come to the village and start hunting down all the outsiders, in the midst of the confusion Hylas and Issi get lost and end up running away in different directions. To search for answers he goes to the gods while on the way finds a runaway princess. A book full of betrayal, mystery, action, fantasy, and historical fiction this book appeals to almost everyone. I would highly recommend this book to animal lovers, and fans of any (or all) of Rick Riordian's books.

Gods and Warriors in an action-packed book set in the Bronze Age. The main character, Hylas, is an Outsider. He is poor, and has to steal for food. He is forced to take care of the goats in the village, but abandons his job to find his sister, Issi, who he knows is either somewhere on the island or dead. Issi had to run away when Hylas and her were attacked by a group of warriors called the Crows, who are trying to kill all of the Outsiders for some reason. Hylas has to escape from them, and he ends up floating to an island, which is where he meets Pirra. Pirra has spent her whole life inside the walls of her city, and now she is being married off to someone she's never even met. She hates her whole life and when she finally gets the chance to escape, she takes it, and she winds up on the same island as Hylas. They end up working together to survive. They battle warriors, befriend a dolphin, and explore a cave that hasn't been seen in thousands of years! This book has many twists and turns, and I would recommend it to anyone who liked both Island of the Blue Dolphins and Percy Jackson, because it is like a mixture of them. Does Hylas find his sister? Will Pirra be found by her mother, who wants to marry her off to a stranger? Do the Crows track down Hylas? Read the book to find out!

Gods and Warriors by Michelle Paver is a exciting book set in Ancient Greece, when Mycane and Crete were ruling the part of the world. The main character, a young goatherd named Hylas, is an orphan and is forced to take care of the village’s goats- against his will. He is forever an Outsider, as he has been branded, and his life gets worse. His friends and sister are attacked by strange warriors set on killing all of the Outsiders. In the midst of the battle, his dog is killed, his sister slips away and he runs off- with an arrow embedded in his arm. This sets the tone of an action-packed book filled with fights, near death and cliff hangers at every chapter. This book takes place in everywhere from the sea, islands, caves and temples. It brings you places from all over, through the eyes of a young boy and girl. The girl, Pirra, is the High Priestess daughter, who escaped from the temple and made her way to the island. Pirra and Hylas team up to find a way off the abandoned island. Along the way, Hylas ends up with a dagger that is very important- and the strange warriors, known as Crows, want it. He and Pirra have to fight their way off an island against the best warriors in the country. The plot thickens, as several characters allegiances seem to change and unknown stories are revealed in the waning moments of a great first book of the series. Michelle Paver brings to life an ancient world, and describes each moment vividly, painting an incredibly realistic picture in your head, and the action is so well explained, it’s like you’re standing in the middle of it. The strength of this book is the plotline. It’s like a roller coaster at Six Flags- the story seems to change instantly, but very smoothly. The strength is also a weakness, however. The plotline is so complex that is easy to become lost and confused. If you miss a key part- you will have no clue what’s going on. That is one of the few things I didn’t like about this book- it is tough to just casually read it, you have to be really into it. Other than that, I think it was a very good book and it ended with a question that will have to be answered in the next installment. I would recommend this to fans of Percy Jackson because it is a lot alike- just set a really long time ago. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next book in this series.
