This book is really a must read. With hilarious, sometimes gripping writing, with fleshed out characters, an interesting idea, and enough plot twists to make you think your on a roller coaster, what's not to love? The only problem I had with this book is the villain, Valentine. Although he was almost constantly talked about, and seemed cruel and interesting, when Clary actually meets him he acts boring and generic. His character doesn't seem to live up to all the things it he's done. If this was the author's intention, then once again well done. Despite that, I really enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next one!

Discover this first installment of the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series and “prepare to be hooked” (Entertainment Weekly).
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

Best. Book. Ever.
This book has to be considered one of my ultimate favorites! Correction, series. This book is full of reveal, adventure, and desire. You will find yourself laughing uncontrollably at the witty humor, crying at the scandalous plot twist, and even fighting along with your favorite Shadowhunters. Once you read the first book there's no stopping to finishing the series. I recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy a long yet entertaining battle along with a roller coaster of emotions.
I love how protective Jace is of Clary. The plot and setting are amazing, I applaud Cassandra for how amazing she did with writing this book out.
This boo k it's good
I do not recommend reading this book in public if you want to be thought of as sane: you will laugh with EVERY page, and as soon as you stop laughing you'll just start rolling on the floor again, until you're terrified and shocked and crying-- yet somehow still laughing uncontrollably. When sixteen-year-old Clary Fray (or is that even her real name...?) is thrusted into a whole new world where 'all the stories are true'--demons, werewolves, vampires, faeries-- she realizes that her mundane life to this point has been full of lies. She is a Shadowhunter, though she was not raised that way, and soon learns how to act like one while still preserving some of her own childhood innocence. She meets people with unforgettable personalities (You can't not love Luke, Magnus, Jace...)...and if you just turn the pages and read on, so will you. To me, this was a young adult version of the Harry Potter series--not that you can't read Harry Potter as a young adult :-) --with just the things a book needs: unpredictable plot twists, and much longing to be in this fictional world alongside these lovable characters.
This is like my favorite book series ever!!!! It has every thing I like in a book. ^_^
This book was so good and a great way to start a series. I couldn't put this book or the series down. I just had to know what happened. When she reveals that Clary was a Shadowhunter I couldn't believe it. SPOILER ALERT: I also couldn't believe that she was half angel and could create new runes. Also the fact that she had a brother that is evil. Her father is an evil mastermind and wants to create a new shadowhunter. I LOVED THIS BOOK and series.
This whole series are wonderful. I couldn't put the book down.
I love this book and have been obsessed with this whole series. This is such a good book.
