Warning: this description has not been authorized by Pseudonymous Bosch. As much as he'd love to sing the praises of his book (he is very vain), he wouldn't want you to hear about his brave 11-year old heroes, Cass and Max-Ernest. Or about how a mysterious box of vials, the Symphony of Smells, sends them on the trail of a magician who has vanished under strange (and stinky) circumstances. And he certainly wouldn't want you to know about the hair-raising adventures that follow and the nefarious villains they face. You see, not only is the name of this book secret, the story inside is, too. For it concerns a secret. A Big Secret.
Book Reviews (233)
This is one of my favorite books. The author narrates the book so it's interesting and mysterious, but also tells the reader a little about himself throughout the story. I would recommend this book for grades 3 to 6. It's just right for me.
This book is very interesting because the narrator narrates the book so that it's really mysterious but gives a good explanation at the same time. The book series is magical figuratively and literally. It has figurative components if the book to give it a magical flair. But the way the story was built and the execution made it literally magical.
If you liked this book, you should read the rest of the series.
I loved this book so much! I would recommend it for ages 8 to 13.
This book is great! On the challenging scale, I would rate it a 3 - just right! I learned a lot but there weren’t any hard words. I loved when Max-Ernest and Cass were in the magician’s house and Max-Ernest flushed the toilet and the magician’s secret room appeared! I also loved when they went into the magician's house and all they saw was the mudroom, but then it turned out to be an elevator and they went down into the magician's house. I was especially surprised when Cass went into the spa! I would recommend this book to 3rd to 6th grade.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I have the hole series. If you like mysteries this is the series for you. I 100% recommend it!
Cass and Max-Ernest don't have any friends. Cass is a survivalist, meaning that she wants to be prepared for every possible disaster. Max-Ernest's parents are divorced, and he has a condition that makes him talk nonstop. One day at Cass's substitute grandfathers' house, a real estate agent named Gloria drops off a bunch of stuff. The things are from the house of a magician who is thought to have died in a fire. One item is extremely unusual. It's a big wooden box called "The Symphony of Smells" with a bunch of tubes with different scents inside. At school, Cass meets Max-Ernest, and they discover a piece of paper with a code hidden in the box. When decoded, it reads "Help". Max-Ernest and Cass go to the magician's old house to search for clues and meet two people, Ms.Mauvais and Dr.L, who are trying to find the magician's secret. When Ms. Mauvais and Dr.L kidnap their classmate Benjamin Blake, Cass and Max-Ernest will have to rescue him and prevent them from learning the secret. I liked this book because it was very funny.
i just start this book in class so I hope it's good.
Would this be a really good book for me if I have a really hard time picking out a book and if I have a really hard time getting interested in a book...Because I need a book for a book project.
