Imagine moving to a new state in a new town with new people that you never met before. Then all of a sudden you start getting creepy letters from someone who calls themselves the Sentry. In Creep by Eireann Corrigan, the protagonist Olivia Danvers becomes friends with Jaine Donahue who just moved into Sixteen Olcott Place with her mom, dad and siblings. Most of the book takes place at Sixteen Olcott Place. The Donahues just moved into the neighborhood and started to get these creepy letters sent to their house from someone who called themselves the Sentry of Glennon Heights. Olivia becomes Jaine Donahue's best friend and tries to help the Donahues figure out who the Sentry of Glennon Heights is. A big aha moment is when Olivia and Janie go to Miss Abbot’s house. Miss Abbot invites them in and Janie ends up asking Miss Abbot if she has seen anyone taking an unusual interest in her home. Miss Abbot asks if she's talking about the Sentry. Olivia and Janie realize that Miss Abbot knows a lot more than they thought she did. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes trying to solve mysteries.

Imagine losing someone you love, and to be left with a mystery that won’t leave you alone until you figure it out. In the book Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs, the protagonist Jacob experiences the loss of his grandfather and goes through a lot of confusion and mystery after his last words. The setting is in Jacob hometown of Englewood Florida, Cairnholm UK, and Cairnholm UK on September 3 1940. The two main antagonists are Jacob’s grandfather's last words and the wights and hollowgasts. The conflicts that Jacob faces in the book are when his grandfather dies and his last words tell Jacob to find something. Jacob faces the conflict of trying to figure out what his grandfather's last words are talking about. Another conflict that Jacob faces in the book is when he finds the loop that his grandfather is talking about and he finds the peculiar children and Miss Peregrine, one of Miss Peregrine’s friends from another loop comes to warn them that there loop might be attacked by wights and hollowgasts in the near future. When they hear this they go on full lock down mode. Jacob’s aha moments in the book are when he finds out he is peculiar when he is out with one of his friends Emma and when he figures out what his grandfather’s last words mean. I think anyone who might be looking for something new and different to read, and is interested in topics of fantasy and a little bit of darkness would like this book. There are many photographs throughout the book as Jacob discovers things and it helps make the story come to life. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend the entire series. Warning- minor language.

Imagine being whisked away to a beautiful castle with a charming prince to compete for. Wouldn’t you just love it? Well for 16-year-old girl America Singer, this is not the case. In the book The Selection and The Elite by Kiera Cass, you find out how America Singer adjusts her daily life, as she is brought to the palace. In The One by Kiera Cass, America(the protagonist AND narrator of this story) faces challenges beyond extreme. She is faced with danger, the fear of falling in love and many more challenges. The setting takes place after the 4th world war. The book never actually states the year. What used to be the United States, reborn out of the ashes is now called Illéa(for clearer ways of seeing it illéa). The antagonist(s) of the story are the Rebels. There are two groups. Northern and Southern. The Northern group only wants to get a story. The Southern group, on the other hand, wants the monarchy to end, AND they are way more lethal than the Northern group. America faces challenges like running from the Southern Rebels. Trying not to get killed by them. She also faces love challenges. She had a secret boyfriend back in Carolina. Now she’s in Angeles and her heart is somewhere else. The boy who broke up with her(Aspen) still loves her and wants her. America wants Maxon(the prince). America’s big “memory moment” is when she and Aspen(well they actually share the moment). America had just gotten shot in the arm. She is going to be okay, but they have to clean it up fast without anyone knowing. So, Aspen takes Maxon(he was trying to protect America), America, and one other guard who was in the situation, down to his room, since he knows no one will think to find them here. They start cleaning her wound and Aspen sees the note America left for her when they were still together. Maxon sees it too. Of course, Aspen can’t tell Maxon that the note was from America because America was competing for Maxons’ heart. Maxon looks at the note and saddens. He says he wishes that he had a person who loved him like that. Aspen nods and says “she was great. I loved and still love her to this day”. Right then and there America and Aspen both remember what it was like to have their relationship. America remembers the time where they used to hide out past curfew in a treehouse. Still, America’s heart belonged to Maxon...I would recommend this book to people in 7th grade and up. You would want to read the first two books first. (in order) The Selection and The Elite. The One is the last book of the trilogy. Though Kiera Cass has many other books like this and even has one where America’s daughter has a selection of her own.
