soccer11's book review was featured in The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 1).
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is the first of the astonishing series. It is a thrilling mythological adventure book written by Rick Riordan featuring a troubled teenage boy that realizes he is much more important than fighting bullies in school. Percy meets monsters to defeat and friends to protect along the way of his long journey as a half-blood. This is a great book to read for teenagers that are interested in Greek Gods and mythology, which is probably why I loved it so much. It is also great for adults to read, just because the plot is so interesting. Rick Riordan did a great job writing the book because you can really see and feel the emotions in each and every character. There is also a movie that connects to the book, but it is not near as good. The book is much different than the movie because every scene in the book expresses Percy’s thoughts and feelings of what is happening in the moment. Whether it is hatred or passion for something or someone, it is very well narrated. You can hear Percy’s voice and what the author is trying to get the reader to understand. The first few chapters of the book are not exciting or action-packed if you ask me, but it is basically giving the reader more insight and information on the kind of person that Percy is. He is a very short tempered person, and he does not like people that pick on him or his friends. While I was reading the book, I lost track of time because I was so engulfed in the story. It was such a great book, I never wanted to put it down! The things that happened in the book reflected onto my life. If something joyful happened in the book, I suddenly became joyful. If something sad happened in the book, I was sad after. There is a variety of emotions in the story, so there is a good chance that the reader will not become bored or sick of the story. Percy Jackson and The Olympians is one of the books that are so cool, you want to be in. Do you ever watch a movie and after you are jealous because there’s no way that it could happen in your life, or realistically be possible? This is one of those books. Luckily there are five books in this series, so you won’t be left on a cliffhanger! In conclusion this is a good book. Overall it is an interesting and thrilling story. It has much more than one genre in it, so there is a variety of many different emotions. Rick Riordan did an amazing job writing this story, and the characters are very majestic and not like an others. Read the series or you will regret it!
