In the tradition of Out of My Mind, Wonder, and Mockingbird, this is an intensely moving middle grade novel about being an outsider, coping with loss, and discovering the true meaning of family.

Willow Chance is a twelve-year-old genius, obsessed with nature and diagnosing medical conditions, who finds it comforting to count by 7s. It has never been easy for her to connect with anyone other than her adoptive parents, but that hasn't kept her from leading a quietly happy life . . . until now.

Suddenly Willow's world is tragically changed when her parents both die in a car crash, leaving her alone in a baffling world. The triumph of this book is that it is not a tragedy. This extraordinarily odd, but extraordinarily endearing, girl manages to push through her grief. Her journey to find a fascinatingly diverse and fully believable surrogate family is a joy and a revelation to read.

"In achingly beautiful prose, Holly Goldberg Sloan has written a delightful tale of transformation that's a celebration of life in all its wondrous, hilarious and confounding glory. Counting by 7s is a triumph."--Maria Semple, author of Where'd You Go, Bernadette

"Holly Goldberg Sloan writes about belonging in a way I've never quite seen in any other book. This is a gorgeous, funny, and heartwarming novel that I'll never forget."--John Corey Whaley, author of Where Things Come Back

"Willow Chance subtly drew me into her head and her life, so much so that I was holding my breath for her by the end. Holly Goldberg Sloan has created distinct characters who will stay with you long after you finish the book."--Sharon Creech, Newbery Award-winning author of Walk Two Moons

I loved Out of My Mind so I thought I'd give this a try...I liked it just as much. Strong characters.

I love this book so much! It is so inspiring and I am so glad I read it. Willow is a girl that has an amazingly hard life that she doesn't deserve. And the book makes you see the world in a different way. I recomend it

Counting by 7s is a good book. It's about a girl named Willow who, as a genius and a love for the environment, has trouble fitting in with other kids and people. Then unexpectedly, her parents die, leaving her in a troubling situation. She stays with a courageous friend named Mai and her family that she met earlier, and makes friends with a taxi driver and a counselor for the school district. When Mai's family moves to Dell's apartment room in the Gardens of Glenwood, which does not look like a garden at all, Willow plants a garden that changes the Gardens of Glenwood. With the help of her friends, she is able to pass the hard things in her life and go on with a new beginning. I wouldn't recommend it, but it is kind of interesting and inspiring.

Counting by 7s is about the tragic life of Willow Chance. Willow is an adopted genius who simply wants to be herself. Willow has a love of medical conditons and plants, but above all Willow loves her parents. One day her world comes crashing down. When Willow's parents die in a car crash, Willow must turn to a new found friendship for help. The story is about when life turns upside down, there will always be people to turn it back around.

The story of a young girl with a broken heart due to the sudden death of her loving adoptive parents, Willow reaches out and touches the heart of several people whose lives change forever. The power of one, as it is called, the young girl, Willow Chance, attempts to escape the idea of a foster home by temporarily living with her new friend Mai until a surprise meets there eyes.

A god book. It tells the story of a girl whose parents died in a car crash, and to avoid being put in a foster home goes to live with her friend Mai.

I love this book, but you should know, there are some sad parts in this book, but if you can handle it, then: This book is about finding where you belong, and who you are. This book is a really good book with a happy ending. I really recommend this book.
